Thirty members of the Grade Tech team volunteered at the Utah Food Bank today. The team spent the morning sorting food donations, assembling food boxes, repackaging bulk food into family-sized amounts and labeling food for distribution to children, families and seniors across the state. The company also donated $15,000 to the local non-profit.
Rory Hall, Grade Tech’s co-founder and Chief Operating Officer, explained that the Grade Tech team gave up their annual Christmas party to help those in the community who have been hit hard this year. “We all realize how fortunate we are to have jobs and to be able to put food on the table for our families,” he said. “We have been very blessed. We have never stopped working this year and none of our team has been touched by the virus, so we wanted to reach out and help those who haven’t been as fortunate as we’ve been.”
Donations to the Utah Food Bank go a long way. For every dollar donated to the food bank, $8 worth of food can be distributed to local families. The food bank can feed a family of four for two weeks for just $20. A $15,000 donation equates to $120,000 and will feed 6,000 families of four for two weeks.
Grade Tech and its employees are staunch supporters of local non-profit organizations. In addition to its support of the Utah Food Bank, each year Grade Tech celebrates its employees work anniversaries by donating to the employees’ charities of choice. This year, donations have been made to Ink Against Cancer, Lincoln Self Reliance and the North Utah Valley Animal Shelter. In addition, Grade Tech puts its expertise in moving dirt to good use by building and maintaining the indoor Rad Canyon BMX track through the winter season. Grade Tech has also partnered with Mrs. Herriman and Salsa Leedos to raise money to feed local Law Enforcement.
Utah Food Bank has been fighting hunger throughout the state for more than 117 years. Last year, the non-profit organization distributed 52.9 million pounds of food (44.1 million meals) to families in all 29 Utah counties through their statewide network of 203 partner agencies. The agency also provides direct-service programs for children and seniors. Utah Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, a nationwide network of more than 200 food banks.
